Are You Considering Abortion?

If you are facing an unplanned pregnancy, you may feel overwhelmed by everything in front of you. Perhaps you are thinking about your options, and you are considering abortion. At the Pregnancy Resource Center, we’re here to help you. You do not have to make this decision alone. There are essential things to understand if you are considering abortion. But first, you need more information about your pregnancy.

Pregnancy Confirmation

Before choosing abortion, it is essential to have your pregnancy confirmed. There are many reasons you could have missed your period or are experiencing other pregnancy symptoms. For instance, stress, hormonal changes, and even rapid weight gain or loss can lead to a change in your menstrual cycle. It is even possible you were pregnant but are now experiencing a miscarriage. According to the Mayo Clinic, up to 20% of known pregnancies end in natural miscarriage.

Even if you have taken an at-home pregnancy test, it’s wise to take another one to confirm and to have an ultrasound to answer certain medical questions about your pregnancy. We provide pregnancy tests and ultrasounds free of charge.

Before Abortion

Whether you are considering an abortion procedure or the abortion pill, it’s important to get all the information first. Please understand that the Pregnancy Resource Center does not offer, provide or refer for abortion procedures or the abortion pill. We do, however, provide several services that are important for your safety, including ultrasound, STI testing and blood typing. Getting an ultrasound and health screening prior to abortion is very important for your health.

  • Have you had an ultrasound? Ultrasound is the only sure way to confirm your pregnancy, to see if the pregnancy is developing as expected, and to ensure that the growing embryo is inside the uterus and not elsewhere (ectopic). An ectopic pregnancy is a life-threatening condition that always requires urgent medical care. Treatment of an ectopic pregnancy requires surgery and/or a medication that is different than the abortion pill.
  • Additionally, the abortion pill is only approved for use during the first 10 weeks of pregnancy. Taking it later in pregnancy increases the risk of complications from the abortion.
  • Have you been tested for STIs? Sexually transmitted infections such as chlamydia and gonorrhea can increase your risk of a serious infection after an abortion.
  • Do you know your blood type? Some women whose blood type is Rh negative can have complications with future pregnancies if not treated with a medication called Rh immunoglobulin (RhIg) during miscarriages, abortions, or delivery.

For these reasons, we strongly encourage you to receive an ultrasound and health screening prior to any abortion procedures, including the abortion pill. It’s best to get all the information you need for your safety first. We offer ultrasound, testing for chlamydia and gonorrhea, and blood typing to you for free.
