Pregnancy

What takes place for pregnancy to occur?
A male sperm and female egg join to form one cell that contains 46 chromosomes which is the complex genetic blueprint for every detail of human development. The fertilized egg travels down the fallopian tube into the uterus, where the fertilized egg implants itself. The developing embryo signals its presence in a number of ways, normally including the interruption of the menstrual cycle.

What symptoms might I experience if I am pregnant?
Some common symptoms of early pregnancy can include a missed period, nausea, breast tenderness, frequent urination, tiredness, and mood swings.

How is pregnancy determined?
Pregnancy can be determined with a urine test, blood test, or in some cases, an ultrasound exam.

What should I do if I think I may be pregnant?
If you think you may be pregnant, obtain either a urine or blood test. To obtain a FREE and CONFIDENTIAL self-administered urine test, contact the Pregnancy Resource Center. Only a doctor or hospital can administer a blood test and we are not a medical facility.

What are my options if I am pregnant?

You have a number of options you can choose!

Parent - You are already a parent. At the moment of conception you become a mother. It is now your choice to decide the future of your son or daughter. As much as this is a shock to you, the decision you make concerning your pregnancy, no matter what it is, will affect the rest of your life. A question to ask youself is: Can I care, with help from others, for another person and raise them in a healthy and loving environment?

Adoption - Choosing to make a plan for your baby to be adopted could be right for you. If you are not ready to take on the responsibility of raising your child you can select a stable, loving family to raise your baby. In many cases, you can decide if you want to receive updates on your child and possibly have visits. You can be proud of yourself that you loved your son or daughter enough for him or her to experience a life that you were not ready to give them at this time.
